Thornhill is ideally located at the centre of the 7stanes Mountain Bike Trail Network. The 7stanes are seven mountain biking centres spanning the south of Scotland including Ae, Mabie, Dalbeattie, Kirroughtree, Glentrool, Glentress & Innerleithen and Newcastleton.
Drumlanrig Castle has something to offer everyone whether you want a quiet afternoon out or an outdoor pursuits. With mountain biking, walking and cycle paths along with fishing and an adventure playground, there is plenty of choice for the adventure seeker. Or why not have a leisurely stroll among our lovingly restored Victorian gardens and a tour of the Castle. No visit is complete without a cup of tea and some nibbles at our Castle Tearoom or café.

Durisdeer is a tiny hamlet nestling at the foot of the Lowther Hills. A mile off the A702 as it links Carronbridge in Nithsdale with Elvanfoot overlooking the M74, Durisdeer is accessed by two very narrow roads that go no further than the village itself. As a result it is little known and seldom visited.

Ellisland is now a popular museum and visitor attraction and it provides a wonderful insight into the life of Robert Burns on a farm two hundred years ago. Guided tours of Ellisland farmhouse and museum are always available.
Morton Castle enjoys one of the most breathtaking settings of any castle in Scotland.
It stands at the head of a triangular bluff, with ground falling away sharply on two sides into Morton Loch below. On the far side of the loch the ground rises steadily to the beautiful Lowther Hills to the north east.
Museum of Lead Mining, is a Visit Scotland 4 Star Visitor Attraction set in the picturesque village of Wanlockhead, which at 461m / 1531 feet above sea level is the highest village in Scotland.
